Tashnag Party leader Hagop Pakradounian said Wednesday the Burj Hammoud municipality will no longer accept any waste, hindering efforts towards a quick-fix to the re-emergence of Lebanon's trash crisis. The Armenian-Lebanese official said the Tashnag Party's mission was to facilitate the government's task when Prime Minister Tammam Salam had warned of resigning over the crisis, however the party's first condition was that the old mountain of trash be removed. The Burj Hammoud landfill must reopen to accept that trash, he said. Before the session, Kanaan described the meeting, the second of its kind this week, as "important and decisive," emphasizing the need to adopt a transition period before finding a permanent solution to the trash issue.Subsequently trash began accumulating in the streets of those areas, with incidents of trash fires being reported.
