On March 25, 2017, the European Union marks 60 years since a group of visionaries and dreamers signed the Treaty of Rome.It laid the basis for the European Union as we know it today. The EU's citizens have enjoyed more than 70 years of unprecedented peace and prosperity since the end of the Second World War.It makes the EU the largest union of democracies in the world. The EU is the largest trade block in the world. The EU is the No. 1 trading partner for 80 countries. We are also the biggest donor to Lebanon and see it as our responsibility to assist the country in dealing with the huge consequences of the Syrian crisis. It is a beautiful story, a story we want to tell. Over two-thirds of Europeans see the EU as a place of stability, more than 80 percent support the EU's four freedoms (movement of capital, people, goods and service provision) and 70 percent of euro-area citizens support the common currency.Throughout 60 years, the EU has achieved a lot.
