Over 20,000 Lebanese and Palestinian families received sacrificial meat for Eid al-Adha from the Sidon-based Al-Reaaya Association, the charity announced in a statement released Tuesday. Eid al-Adha, which translates as "Festival of the Sacrifice," honors Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his own son on God's command. Vulnerable families and orphans had gathered at Sidon municipality's slaughterhouse to watch the animals be slaughtered according to halal methods before Al-Reaaya volunteers distributed the meat. This means that since its establishment in 1985, Al-Reaaya has made a total of 25,398 sacrifices which have fed 286,451 families, according to the statement.
