Lawmakers and activists Tuesday called on Public Works and Transportation Minister Youssef Fenianos to reverse his support for a decision that privatized some 30,000 square meters of public maritime property in the northern city of Mina.Tuesday's conference centered on a 2013 decision to register the plot as private land, reversing 80 years of legal rulings that confirmed the plot, which lies in the Mediterranean Sea by the Mina Corniche, as public.A 1987 court ruling, however, maintained that the land was public maritime property, and in 1993 a higher judicial panel affirmed the ruling. However, then-Finance Minister Raya El Hassan, who is now the interior minister, refused, again citing the judicial rulings. The presiding judge issued a ruling freezing use of the land until a decision was issued. Fenianos, the current public works minister, attempted unsuccessfully to get the judge to dismiss the case.
