The Taif Accord, negotiated in 1989, took a month to be approved, and even then it only passed after direct pressure from regional and international powers and the prayers of the Lebanese, who were fed up with the bloodshed and warmongering. While the accord is not set in stone, any changes must be considered and carried in the context of stability and national consensus, not division and disarray. Similarly, cherry picking articles from the accord to suit political agendas or attempting to tinker with them imperils the agreement as a whole.
